Yancey Strickler

Kickstarter
Writer, Speaker and Cofounder
For more than a decade I worked on Kickstarter, cofounding the platform and serving as CEO from 2014 until last year. Kickstarter has helped raise more than $3 billion for filmmakers, musicians, writers, designers, and other creative people. More than 100,000 creative projects have come into existence because of it.

While at Kickstarter I also cofounded a resource for artists by artists called The Creative Independent. It publishes insights on the creative process every weekday from artists like Philip Glass, Matthew Barney, Bjork, Stevie Nicks, Nikki Giovanni, and more than 100 others.

In past lives I was a music critic for Pitchfork, Spin, and the Village Voice. I cofounded a record label called eMusic Selects. I published a baseball zine called Yard Work. I wrote a basketball zine called Invisible Courts. I made an app that lets fans announce NBA games called Micd.

Over the years I've shared my ideas with the BBC, CNN, NBC News, Wired, Le Monde, Das Spiegel, Nikkei, the New York Times, the New Yorker, and at the Walker Art Center, Museum of Modern Art, MIT Media Lab, Stanford, Columbia University, the White House, and the Tribeca and Sundance Film Festivals.
I’ve been recognized as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, one of Fast Company’s Most Creative People, Fortune’s 40 Under 40, and Vanity Fair’s New Establishment.
